Goodbye 2021 – Hello 2022!
As we prepare to say goodbye to 2021 and welcome in 2022 let’s take some time to be grateful for all 2021 has given us.
I know 2021 may have been a difficult year for you, and you may even be thinking ‘I cant wait to see the back of 2021’. In this case, gratefulness is even more important.
I invite you to reframe your thoughts of 2021. It may seem counter-intuitive, but if you ‘despise’ what you have now, you are more likely to attract more of ‘that’ into your life. This is because your vibrational frequency is attuned to whatever you focus your attention on. This is fluffy stuff, as it is backed up by neuroscience (what we focus our attention on creates changes in our brain).
I find the writings of Louise Hay to be hugely beneficial in this area. She suggests focusing on the greatness of what you have now. For example, if you want to find a more fulfilling job, then look for the positive aspects of your current job. It may appear as if there is nothing positive to be grateful for, but if you look deeper, you will be surprised at what you find. It is the same for all aspects of life – your relationships, your living environment, your car, your spiritual practise, etc. Who knows… perhaps you will fall in love with your current situation more or be more inspired to take the steps you need to let go of these things. But when you let go with love, you open your heart to something new arriving.
A gratefulness meditation for you
Be careful not to make the meditation a mental exercise. It is more beneficial to allow yourself to relax into this rather than trying hard to list many things.
Instead, invite your body to relax by focusing on your breath. Silently repeating the words ‘relax’ or ‘let go’ on every outbreath may be helpful. Feel the energy of gratitude fill your heart, and then allow things you are grateful for come to mind. Let your mind linger on each and just feel the emotion of gratefulness.
It doesn’t have to be a long or elaborate list. You can be grateful for your pet, the working of your lungs, your healthy body or mind, your loved ones, the plants you grow in your garden, your wealth, your home…. Allow the list to extend out to the simple things in your life and enjoy the process.
Are You Ready to make meditation a habit in 2022?
I know its challenging to find time – that’s why I will be running 15 minute meditation sessions in January. Find out more here ’15 Minute Mornings’
